PicoWay Laser Tattoo Removal at Luminess Skin and Laser Clinic

How does it work?

The PicoWay laser works by emitting a unique beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment in the tattoo, which then allows the laser light to break down the ink from the tattoo into tiny particles without damaging the surrounding tissue. The body’s natural processes then expel these particles via your immune system. Over the next 6-8weeks the ink will be removed through your lymphatic system.

Picosecond technology uses ultra-short bursts of energy to create a photo-acoustic impact, which breaks up the pigment into smaller, more easily absorbed particles. Its proprietary mode of action has the highest peak power and the shortest pulse duration of any picosecond device on the market for superior efficacy, safety and comfort.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will vary depending on location, depth, size, and type of pigment. On average 6-10 treatments may be required for complete clearance of an unwanted professional tattoo, however, fewer treatments may be needed for a partial removal or fading of an unwanted tattoo in order to have a cover up tattoo. This will be discussed during your consultation once your laser therapist has assessed the tattoo to be treated.

How long will it take to remove my tattoo?

With the ultra fast PicoWay laser, your treatments will be surprisingly quick. Treatment times range from 5 minutes for smaller tattoos to 10 minutes for larger pieces. Full removal of a tattoo can take anything from 8 months to 2 years depending on the tattoo ink, placement, size and commitment to your treatments.

I have a colourful tattoo, will laser remove it?

When it comes to the PicoWay laser the short answer is yes! PicoWay is the only laser on the market that will remove notoriously resistant tattoo ink pigments such as blue, green, red and orange, as well as traditional black and grey. Unlike other lasers traditionally used in the removal of tattoos, which can only treat black and grey inks, PicoWay is able to break down any colour of ink leaving you tattoo free.

Is the treatment painful?

PicoWay treatment delivers energy faster than any other laser tattoo removal system and because pulses are faster, you’ll feel less discomfort throughout the procedure. Most clients report a sensation of an elastic band being snapped against the skin and a feeling warmth. You can opt to have a numbing cream applied prior to treatment to relieve any discomfort and your laser therapist will treat your tattoo with soothing aloe after the treatment as well as wrapping it in a water proof dressing.

Is there any downtime?

With the PicoWay there is little to no downtime after your treatment. The area may be slightly red directly after treatment and some mild swelling can also be present but this is short lived. You can return to normal activities, such as the gym, 72 hours post treatment. Your laser therapist will provide you with a detailed Pre and Post treatment aftercare guide for you to follow to ensure optimum results and comfort.

Will I be left with a scar once my tattoo is removed?

The short answer is no, however, if your tattoo already has scarring within it from the tattoo application process then this scarring will be left behind once the ink has been removed but the PicoWay laser treatment itself does not cause any scarring or trauma to the tissues. Your tattoo will be thoroughly assessed during your consultation and any scarring already present will be brought to your attention. We also document your removal process by taking a number of photographs before your treatment so that we can track your removal progress.

Once your tattoo is removed if there is any scarring from having the tattoo applied originally and you wish to have this treated we have a number of scar revision options available. Your laser therapist will be able to advise you what options would be best suited to you as every client is individual.
